Have you ever knit a sweater from a pattern and have it fit perfectly? If so, which pattern, which yarn (in order to knit directly from the pattern both your stitch and row gauge must match), and what size (no adjusting for sleeve length?). And, this perfect-fitting sweater…please send me a picture (on the perfect body preferably) so I can share with the masses OR better yet, post here and include a link to the picture if its somewhere else, like Ravelry.
On the other hand if all of your sweater knitting requires adjusting, I’d like to know about that too. What changes do you make for the perfect fit? Gauge, size, shoulder width, sleeve style? Again, comment below and include a link to the picture or send it to me and I’ll share the inspiration.
I have a pink curvy tumbler with your name on it. I’d share the link to the website so you can see what the new curvy tumbler looks like, but the website page is a mess 🙁 . Trust me. You don’t? Here. This is why I am not getting anything else done.
Comments/Posts/pictures must be received by October 9 16 (just in case that perfect sweater is still on the needles). If you don’t have the image hosted somewhere else, my email is lea-ann at knittingtoday.com. You know to replace the “at” word with the sign”@” right?
Can’t wait to see everyone’s creations!
I have only been brave enough to knit one sweater for myself and relied upon the local LYS guru to frog it and reknit and use her vast storage of knowledge to adjust it to fit me! Now I only knit for babies because they don’t complain about the fit or color.
Hi Lea-Ann,
Nice contest! I have a perfect cardigan, that I knitted twice. Does that apply for your contest? It is the Gigi that was in the online magazine Knitty.com: http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/PATTgigi.html
First I knitted this pink one, because I thought it would be fantastic for me as a redhead. I am used to wear a lot of black clothes, but this time I tried something completely different… But considering my acne (at that time and it hasn’t changed since) the pink wasn’t the right color. Therefore I knitted another in blue. Recently the pink Gigi I gave to a friend who looked lovely in it, thanks to her skin tone. She was happy with it and I always like it when someone else is happy with a knitted object I made. You must know how that feels, right? Note: it is not my friend in the photo, but me.
The only thing I adjusted was the edge on where the buttons or buttonholes are placed all the way up to the neck. In the original design it was with knitted stitches so it would curl. For the blue one, I knitted this part in rib (k1, p1). Sorry, for the blue one, I haven’t had any good pictures yet.
So the pink one was knitted with Scheepjeswol Glossy (cotton and acrylic) and the blue one with Scheepjeswol Donna (Merino wool and microfiber).
Have a nice weekend all! Ciao, Fleur (Fleurtje-Eliza on Ravelry)

I’ve only knit one sweater for myself. I knit the Classic Lines Cardigan from Knit Picks. First, my gauge was looser than required, so I knit one size smaller. I wanted the sleeves and body longer, so I added about an inch to both, and I’m glad I did. Aside from that, I accidentally (of course) twisted my knitting in the round and continued knitting it with a giant twist all the way to the neckline–definitely not in the pattern. I steeked it, as intended, and the twist was no longer an issue. But it fits me! I think when a pattern gives the schematic, it is easier to adjust it to get a better fit or have confidence that it will fit if gauge is a match.

I knit Sweaterbabe’s http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/99-flutter-sleeved-blousy-lace-cardigan. It went perfectly. From the pattern to the fit. It is one of my favorites. The sweater went together effortlessly and as I knit it is was like it was designed for me….exactly what I was looking for when I found the pattern and set out to knit it….no tweeking required! Not the greatest photo…but I am lovin’ it! http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sch4gators/99-flutter-sleeved-blousy-lace-cardigan

I have not attempted clothing yet. I need a lot more practice still!
The perfect fit sweater I knitted and I have knitted a few was the Knitting Pure and Simple 922 Mens Top Down Henley. I knitted 2 of them out of Oncore Tweed. Knitted the first for a friend who asked me to fix his favorite sweater that had holes in it; it was so bad that I threw it away and made him a new one. He loves it. While I was knitting it I asked my sister to try it on to see how it fit and, of course, it was the “perfect” fit. So naturally I had to make her one.
Since then my sister-in-law has requested one and I also want to make myself one. It sure is a quick and easy sweater. I love it.
Wow Lisa, this men’s henley sounds great! If the pattern is on Ravelry would you add the link here, please?
Have a nice day, all! Ciao, Fleur (Fleurtje-Eliza on Ravelry)
