update from Lea-Ann

Out of the blue today I was thinking there must be a song which addresses my current feelings about change and moving from the storefront into a studio room and adjusting to that change. What popped up was a song by Group 1 Crew called Movin’. I went to one of their concerts with my kids once and really enjoyed the high energy they brought to the stage, even if I couldn’t quite understand all the lyrics. The lyrics that jumped out at me were:

“On your mark, get set, here we go
Time to make your future unfold”

Change is not always the easiest, but when its time, its time and after having a retail storefront for fourteen years, I have faith that God is directing this next stage in my knitting career. The lyrics, “You don’t have to wait anymore its all yours for sure, let your faith walk it out now, walk it out now,” seem to point to me that its time to have faith that the changes I’m making will be not only for the betterment of myself and my family, but for my customers and knitting friends as well. Lord willing!!

As of today and for the current future, Knitting Today storefront hours are Fridays 10-4. We have lunch bunch (open knitting) for anyone who wants to join us from 11-2 or 3ish. The phone is now moved to my studio, as is the internet, my knitting machines, my hand knitting projects, and most of my inspiration and books. There is still quite a bit of moving to do, but I am feeling settled already.

Would you like to see my current set-up? The bookshelf will be emptied out and bins moved in and books sorted and replaced. A knitting machine that will be for sale as soon as I have all the parts put where they belong replaced by a 9-bin cubby with a machine on top of it, and my knitting chair. Various and sundry items along the wall shelf are an ironing board hanger, various types of glue, Tom’s poker collage, paintings by Tara Lea, and a mannequin that needs some knitwear.  Almost all need other homes.

Still to be sorted and cleaned out
Still to be sorted and cleaned out

This shot where the computer resides for a stand-up desk is full of bins of projects that need to be repaired or finished along with a few bags of paperwork that has piled up since the beginning of the year. On the right is two nine-bin stacks full of magazines. Almost an entire set of Knitter’s, Interweave, Vogue Knitting, Knitwords, Knitting World (anyone remember this magazine??), tatting books and supplies, VHS [what in the world am I going to do with them??]. Inspiration!!

So here we are, movin’, movin’ . . . . more later!

The perfect fit? Share to win ….

image

Have you ever knit a sweater from a pattern and have it fit perfectly? If so, which pattern, which yarn (in order to knit directly from the pattern both your stitch and row gauge must match), and what size (no adjusting for sleeve length?).  And, this perfect-fitting sweater…please send me a picture (on the perfect body preferably) so I can share with the masses OR better yet, post here and include a link to the picture if its somewhere else, like Ravelry.

On the other hand if all of your sweater knitting requires adjusting, I’d like to know about that too. What changes do you make for the perfect fit? Gauge, size, shoulder width, sleeve style? Again, comment below and include a link to the picture or send it to me and I’ll share the inspiration.

I have a pink curvy tumbler with your name on it. I’d share the link to the website so you can see what the new curvy tumbler looks like, but the website page is a mess 🙁 . Trust me. You don’t? Here. This is why I am not getting anything else done.

Comments/Posts/pictures must be received by October 9 16 (just in case that perfect sweater is still on the needles). If you don’t have the image hosted somewhere else, my email is lea-ann at knittingtoday.com. You know to replace the “at” word with the sign”@”  right?

Can’t wait to see everyone’s creations!

New products for a fresh summer!

Want to know what we brought back from TNNA? Well….. we only brought some supplies of Soak and Heel!!! The rest of it you’ll have to wait for until Fall knitting season!

Soak is a modern care for fine fibers. This rinse-free formulation is perfect for washing your laciest lingerie, your softest sweaters, swimwear, workout gear, etc. The scent is a gentle scent but a nice added touch to your handwashes to make them feel delicate. My two favorite are the Celebration and Aquae. Do not fret; we still have Eucalan in the traditional Eucalyptus, Lavendar, Unscented, and Grapefruit.

Heel is a cream for your feet. We understand the dedication put into kniting our socks, the frustrations we overcame, and labor we intertwined into our creation. After all that, we need to pamper our feet. Heel comes in four scents:  spearmint, peppermint, cucumber, and unscented. It has a light scent that isn’t too overpowering. We currently only have in stock the spearmint and the unscented, because we sold out of the other two! But you do have a good choice if you buy the spearmint; I have heard the spearmint on your heels at the end of a hot day makes the most relaxing scent.

So please, give our new products ao try. You may find a new love to treat your knitting and you. – Tara

Maybe I can breathe now?

Well, soccer season is oficially over- at least through the school. Still have a few more weeks to tie up the league but the real hustle bustle is done. Basketball started for Sarah on Monday but that only takes up one evening and Saturday mornings. I feel like I can finally take a deep breath and not feel so in a hurry all the time. (Does that ever really happen when one has children?)

We’ve got some new books on the shelf, as well as oodles of new yarns. Northern Knits by Lucinda Guy is just in and on the shelf, as are several others.  I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Sock Yarn One Skein Wonders book.  Rest assured, it is on order and we will have it as soon as it comes out.  If you’d like to pre-order it, just give us a call or you can put it on the wait list on the website and we’ll let you know when it comes in.  I must admit that I am looking forward to this book immensely, as I have a fetish with sock yarn.  I am trying to convince myself that I will knit one thousand pair of socks some day, thus justifying the ever increasing mound of yarn, but who am I kidding?  I have so far not proven to be an avid sock knitter.  But I will not let that deter me from purchasing more sock yarn.  And now this book will validate my obsession.  I can’t wait!
