Fair Isle favorites?

Class

Today is Fair Isle day. I teach a technique I called “Don’t Get Your Yarns In A Tangle”, where you hold one yarn in your left hand and one in your right. There is a cross, uncross movement to that method that keeps your yarns from tangling around each other. first I see what hand the student holds predominantly and that hand holds their main color and then the other hand holds the contrast color. Of course we work on tension, float length, etc. The project almost everyone chose is the Three Tams hat from Knitty, Winter 2007. Now, if I could just find my sample we stashed somewhere in the store, I’d upload a picture :(. Tara said the last time she saw it, I was wearing it! Uh oh!

New Project Inspiration: Hickory

I did see a tweet about a new Fair Isle mitten pattern that is calling my name though. It is called Hickory Mittens. The challenge is four colors per round! I love myself a new technique. I would post a picture here, but haven’t asked the designer yet. Here’s the flickr link to it though.

The Personal

Its been an interesting holiday season for us so far with my mom visiting pre-Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, my grand-twins being born the Monday after Thanksgiving (everyone was healthy Praise The Lord!), and then moving onward to Cameron having eating difficulties, tests, Trent getting the flu and moving to our house to keep everyone there health, both babies being hospitalized with RSV and me helping care for Jacob, then Lukinda getting a kidney infection and being hospitalized with Tara, Trent and I tag-teaming to care of the babies and also work. Wooh! Mix in the stress of winter driving and holiday work for Tom, trying to keep it all together for the store has been a challenge. I’m sooooo ready to start the new year!! Thanks friends for keeping us in your prayers while we tackle the challenges put in front of us day by day, hour by hour. I’m so glad God gives me peace when I lean on him:
