St. Nicholas’ day is on the 6th December, but in Holland, the major celebrations are held on the 5th December. The name Santa Claus comes from the name Sinterklaas. On December 5th, children leave clogs or shoes out to be filled with presents. They also believe that if they leave some hay and carrots in their shoes for Sinterklaas’s horse, they will be left some sweets.

Clue: We love sweet treats especially if they show up in the “soles” of our shoes!

Once you find the featured picture above on the product page at http://www.knittingtoday.com, you need to email that page URL to customerservice@knittingtoday.com. You’ll receive a reply back that you’ve been entered or a try-again if you aren’t quite there. While these clues seem fairly easy to us because we’re in the store day-in and day-out, I realize those who don’t know the products we carry might be having a little trouble. Feel free to email us (customerservice@knittingtoday.com) for clarification.

The sweet treats shown in the photo above are made with Marie Mayhew’s Woolly Candy Corn pattern.

Happy hunting! Come back tomorrow after 9am for the next clue! All emails will be entered in the drawing for $30 worth of Marie Mayhew Woolly patterns or projects, drawing on the 19th.

This project is the king of easy projects. It’s a brand-new yarn that we can’t keep in the store. We’re almost sold out again of Moda by Tahki Stacy Charles, INC. So far, we only have available two colors of purple. We should be receiving more colors this coming week or two, but they can’t guarantee what colors. There is also the yarn Moda Lame that includes metallic which we may get.

This is a perfect, quick Christmas gift for any lady in the family. It’s *ONLY* four stitches. Moda is a net like yarn that doesn’t require wrapping a strand around the needle. You put the loop onto it and knit it. Simple!

The pattern is free and Moda is only $9.00 USD. It takes one ball to make a scarf.

Another great scarf is made out of the Diva bundles. Diva is a fun bundle of yarn in an array of hand-dyed of colors. Each bundle is comprised of several colors of a wool/mohair blend and one strand of a little something special for extra “pop”. It is only 70 yards per bundle.

Pattern: You cast on length wise about 200 stitches and knit until you leave a strand. Leave it hanging there and cast on with the other yard of color. When you’re all done, place beads on the ends and tie them in knots. It takes two to make a long one, skinny scarf, as seen in the photo. It’s knit on a size 9 US needle.

Some nice scarf projects for you to do!

Those are some ideas for Christmas! Also, if you made one of these scarves, don’t be afraid to share it! Look us up on facebook and tag us in the photo! We love to share what our customers are knitting!

I always want some thing to keep me warm. I love scarves. I wear some sample scarves around the store while Iwork. A favorite of mine is the Reversible Cables Scarf. We had a customer come in and even tried it on herself, almost walked away with it! When mom is chilled at work, she even slips it on. It’s the perfect length and great to slide into your coat.

It’s a 6 in X 40 in scarf. The pattern says it’s for intermediate knitters. I am one, so it would be easy for me. If you’re worried about cables, don’t be. They are super fun to learn and do! Don’t say you can’t handle this because it’s out of your experience. Think positive thoughts, and you’ll do great. Even when you mess up on a project, think positive thoughts on how this will be a learning experience. It only takes one skein of Ty-dy Socks with many colors to choose from in that category. You can make an optional keyhole (seen in the photo) or you can do one wthout. When I first started looking at Christmas gifts, this was the first one I wanted to do for my girlfriends. They are on campus at college, walking in the cold winters. If it keeps my neck warm, it sure would for them! This project is still on my bucket list to give to my friends.

We aim to please! If you don’t see what you’re looking for online, please call us! We’d be happy to help! 1-800-426-5098 or for locals: 351-2260

The whole point of Christmas is giving, not because you have to give but because you want to give. You give your heart out with projects especially with knitting.

A great gift to give for the holidays because you want to give is baby booties. Lea-ann (A.K.A. Mom) made Jacob (my nephew) baby booties. These are great one skein projects for Christmas. A lot of our customers come in looking for projects for their family that are expecting, and what a great idea to make that won’t burn a hole through your pocket.

The pattern is a free download off of Ravelry.com. It’s free to join and share your projects and stash and everything about knitting.

Personally, I would love to make these baby booties and give them away. When I have enough money, I would like to buy toys and take them to a hospital where kids are staying over Christmas. These booties would be great gifts for new babies that are born around Christmas or any time. I would love to see a hospital give these away with a special little note for the parents. Also, it’ll include washing instructions. That image just warms my heart. I should get over my fear of knitting on small needles to make these for that purpose soon.

A great yarn to make them out of is Baby Ull. The colors are so pretty in the store! So many cute colors for babies. You can also use sock yarn. We have a new color of Happy Feet that would be so cute to makes these booties in. I really love the color way of Heart & Sole. I just can’t wait for someone to come in and buy out the whole bin because of the colors.

Another great pattern is Saartje’s Bootees. It can also be done out of the yarns talked about above. These booties are more for little premature babies. They would be adorable with Baby Ull as the main color and Heart & Sole as the contrast color. The ones we have as a sample at the store are just one color with cute buttons. We have a cute collection in the store, Knitting Today.

With the extra yarn, you could also make a little hat to go with. Make an Easy Peasy Newborn Sock Hat! Such a cute pair for the new member of the family.Since the patterns are free, all you would be spending money on is the yarn. Great savings for this project! Make sure you buy your yarn at Knitting Today and buttons

Picture from rgorsegner’s ravelry account. Check out her projects on flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/62391131@N00

Right now, be ready because I’m going to be posting projects for Christmas, done out of the yarns at Knitting Today. There will be one skein projects or more than one to get you Christmas ready and not always hurt your budget. I know because I’m a college student, and my list for people has escalated: my family, my brother’s family, my boyfriend, his family, and my friends! So many people, but I had to cut it down and found some cheap ideas. So I’m saving with as many people I have to get presents for and searching always for ideas to do with my stash or use my employee discount . Well, we’re going to be prepared.

Today’s project of the day is Tom’s Hoodie (click to be wait listed for the pattern — so popular, we sold out!). He made this out of Dream in Color Classy. It took him a month to knit it, about two hours a night in front of the TV. His original intentions was to find a sweater that he could wear out ice fishing — EWE (and that’s not the sheep)! I think he might just wear it to keep warm, and maybe we’ll let him wear it out hunting.

Another sweater we adore in Classy would be the Hayley Hoodie. It’s a great pullover with feminine touches. I have drooled over this pattern for the past year, and I want to knit something cute. Well, this is my favorite color option and I only need four of them for this beautiful garment. Add an extra, and I can change to long sleeves with the help of yours truly (Lea-Ann, my mom) at Knitting Today.

Another great group of patterns is Chic Knits. The sweaters and pullovers are great to work with Classy. In fact, mom wants to work the Mondo Cable Pulli.

We have a deal for you: buy four or more Classy and receive 20% off, and check out those patterns (since they are in the Classy category, you’ll get 20% off those too)! It’s a steal.
One of my favorite hobbies is mixing and matching. I collage in my free time. I cut magazines for pictures, colors, patterns, designs, etc. and paste everything together. With knitting, I play with colors all the time! Just mixing and matching, finding a project that would look great in this yarn. Or wait! How about this? You should see me on those days! (Come in and ask me what patterns I like and what I would do and you’ll find a project for anything!)

Back to the subject, I love the Noni Bags and Jul handles. They are fun to match with Shepherd’s Wool and please my creative genes when I work! But I’m looking at all of our yarn and seeing, what would be a great purse color? Well, I love purple (and luckily my winter coat is purple), but most coats are neutral colors.

Short to say, I’m making my talent work for me! I’m making kits of the Noni, Shepherd’s wool, and Jul hardware to make a specific bag. Now, they’ll be selling on ebay, but we’ll also have them in the store in bags so you can see total price. We can also switch any colors out of the handles or wool. We want what you want! Use our coupon code: jul15 ! If you like any of the ones I put in pictures and would like it, give us a shout out, and we’ll save it for you! Start this Fall with style with your own Noni purse. – Tara

Welcome to my life. Knitting has been a good thing. Knitting has done wonders for me in the past. Today was the grand opening of the LaGrange County Fair. I entered my Rainbow Tam.

The Rainbow Tam is a free pattern from www.knitty.com called Three Tams. We have a add on if you would like to make it a slouchy tam instead of a more fitting one.

For these tams, we use Shepherd’s Wool and Noro Kureyon. It makes a great variation. As I entered it in the fair, the judge had nothing to comment about. She liked it and gave me a blue ribbon.

Knitting has also traveled with me to an art portfolio review. I decided since it’s a needle “art” I can show my professor. I told him that this is considered art and showed him my knitting. He laughed! He said he had a dream about knitting the other night. How crazy is that? Anyways, I ended up with a six hundred dollar scholarship for my art classes.

Recently, a friend of mine had a baby girl. I wanted to knit something nice for her and decided a baby hat. Well, it did not turn out right. While at work, I flipped through a Creative Knitting magazine and found a pattern called Ollie the Octopus.

I decided to knit it out of leftovers of Dream in Color Classy. It’s the colors that make up the Tulip Baby Sweater. It was weird because it wasn’t knit in the round, so I changed the legs to be in the round and seamed up the part knit flat, but I finished it! I’ll be giving it to her soon. A cool simile was stated by the grandpa. He said when they change her diaper, she squirms like a little octopus! Too perfect, right?

As I am starting college, I have some friends who want to learn and make their own projects. My favorite thing we have now is cowls. They are so cute and fun! I’m into scarves and want to make some for my friends that are going away to college. I have a challenge from the head of the sales department of SMC, the yarn company that produces Schachenmeyer, Nashua and Regia. He wants me to knit the longest scarf and show him at TNNA-Phoenix this January. (I’ll be going, right mom????) So, I’ll be knitting that with slouchy hats and finishing up my monster Hugo from the Rebecca Danger book. Speaking of Hugo, is anyone else knitting monsters? We might participate in a travelling monster show!!

So many projects! A lot of less time with me at art camp all of July! Stop in and say hi to Mom. She’ll get lonely without me!

The new patterns from Knit One, Crochet Too are in stock! I am partial to the Mermaid Tee; I think it would be figure flattering for most body types, and I just like the way it looks. You knit this swingy little tee in strips (ten for the body and three for each sleeve) and then join the strips using the three needle bind off technique. Notice how that gives a little extra pop between the strips? The thought of not having to seam is appealing to me as well. See all the new Knit One, Crochet Too patterns by clicking on the link to Ty-Dy yarn below.

Now, to get to the real reason you are reading this post- the free pattern!

Lucia Tee - Free Pattern!

The pattern is a sweet, feminine top called the Lucia Tee and is available with the purchase of Ty-Dy yarn. It is knit in the round which is a bit unusual for Helene, and a nice treat for us. I think it’s absolutely adorable. It is a relatively simple knit, suitable for advanced beginners and should be quick enough to have done before summer really kicks in. Interested? Click on the pattern link above to find out how much yarn you will need; choose a color and place an order. You will be offered the pattern for free during the check-out process. We are working on re-stocking the yarn; if you wish to order a color that is low on stock please call us (1-800-426-5098 or 260-351-2260) and tell us what color you need and we’ll make sure we get enough to fill your order. Just a little head’s up- Ty-Dy prices are going up in July! That includes all members of the Ty-Dy family. Anything you order before then will be filled at the current price, but please do make sure to get your order in soon.
