And the winners are…

While Lea-Ann was at Spring Fling I drew the winners for the Frequent Buyer Card for the first quarter.  There were lots of names in the jar, so I drew four.  Each winner receives a book.  We had four books to choose from and it’s first come, first served around here.  Two of the winners were at Sweater Night on Thursday and are pictured below with their chosen books.  The other winners are Tami Baranek and Liz Kruger.  We’ll try to remember to get pics of them with their books but I make no promises.

Cynthia with "Knitted Socks East and West"

Nancy with "Knitting 24/7"

If you live close enough to stop by, make sure you ask for a Frequent Buyer card if you don’t already have one. Fill the card and receive 10% off your next purchase.  Once the card has been redeemed, we put your name on the back and pop it into our jar until the end of the quarter when we draw our winners.  The prizes change so you never know what you’ll get, but I promise it will always be something worth your while!

Ready to Help… our own Elf!

Well, he really isn’t our own elf, but he sure is darn cute!!!!! New grandson, Jacob,  is wearing the Andean Hat that is coming with us to Stitches Midwest. Yepp, we are packing for it!  The store looks like an actual hurricane has came through.  Jjust wait until we take the shelves, Susan will be selling out of boxes while we’re gone!  She might even throw a “box” sale just so we don’t have to put it back on shelves.  Stay tuned . .

Cassidy is almost done!  It is completely assembled, just waiting to finish up a few ends, block and sew on the buttons.  Can’t wait to show you the final product.

Giveaway:  In the meantime, if you would like to win one of the hat kits Jacob is wearing, leave a comment.  We’ll draw a winner upon our return from Stitches Midwest.  And, if you don’t want to make the hat?  There is enough yarn in the kit to make Marie Mayhew’s felted eggs or use do a multi-color felted bag, like Noni’s Vintage Purse.  Oh, and notice that the hat is lined?  Tammy Otis came up with that idea all on her own and shared a write-up with us.  Make sure you ask for it if you order a kit.  Speaking of Tammy, her and DH celebrated their anniversary recently and guess where they spent some of the time?  Yep, here!  She brought us size of the Andean Hats in various colorways for our display at Stitches.  Thank you, Tammy!  And congrats, to both of you on your anniversary too!

Jim and Tammy — Happy Anniversary!

Another kit we’ll be featuring at Stitches Midwest is the Freedom Hat kit, available in three colorways.  It is a fun knit!

Freedom Hat Kit

Boy, am I rambling. . . can you tell my thoughts are on packing for Stitches?  Must get back to it – Lea-Ann

Sisters . . . And A Rainy Day!

Aren’t they the cutest things? What else is there to do on a rainy day at the lake?  Go to Knitting Today and work on their new sweaters.  I really never dreamed they would become avid sweater knitters at 15 and 17!

And, for a close-up on what they are doing?

Haley is a few rows in on Coraline.  Note the color coding work she has done on the chart. Each symbol is a different color so she can easily glance down to see whether it is an SSK or a K2Tog (or whatever happens on the purl side).  She’s also keeping track with her highlighter tape.  The yarn she’s using is Cotton Classic

Tara?  Well, she couldn’t resist and she did start the Ty-Dy Dots Cleopatra she blogged about yesterday.  I guess she thought about it all night and the first thing she did when she walked in was pick up the yarn and try to find the pattern for it.  Well, during knit night last night (she was on a babysitting job), I knew we had sold two of the patterns, maybe even the last one.  I mentioned it to her and she started tearing up!!  Seriously!  She said I only have thirty days to get it knit! Well, looking through the stack, I did find the last one [and I see online that the inventory isn't tracking the POS sales so need to fix whatever is happening or not happening properly there].  I cannot believe she is doing this.  She’s going to be knitting non-stop until fair!

The fit on both of these tops are different for me.  They are both a-line shape.  Haley’s gathers at the bustline and Tara’s is gathered by the yoke shaping.  Haley has the complicated factor of adding in bust darts for her shape.  I’ve not sized out an a-line shape before so I’m pulling out the new trusty book on Sweater Design to make sure we’re measuring correctly.  What has been your experience with fitting an a-line?  Do you measure under the bust and knit to gauge?  Do you measure the bust itself and how much “a” do you want at the line?

As for me? Forget time to knit.  I’m working on the brochure for MK Unite! July 29-August 1 and finalizing the luncheon for Lorna’s Day June 16 (which is now sold out, but we’re taking a waiting list so call 800-426-5098).

P.S.  I’m on my wait to TNNA — anything new you want me to look for?

P.P.S. Don’t forget about the giveaway, it ends June 19!

drumroll . . . and the winners are:

Sandra Kleven and Cindy Clark!!!  Thank you everyone for posting your UFOs.  Email me, Sandra, and we’ll get your winning product out to you (Cindy — you can come in since you aren’t too far away :-) ).  Congratulations and thank you to everyone for posting!!

There’s another giveaway at:

http://knittingtoday.com/knews/2010/05/19/packing-it-up/

It will end June 19. . . . maybe its your turn to win??  Those water bottles are so cool!

Packing it up

It is my last morning to sit on the porch outside in 70 degree weather with my first cup of coffee in the morning. I hear the weather back in Indiana isn’t so nice.

A little progress was made on Cassidy. I had to figure out where I was, tear down and fix some cable crosses and then make sure the sleeve shaping was going to fit my body. Mission accomplished. I even figured out how to cross a cable during bind off! Now I am wondering if I should fix the back cable bind off rows?

Progress was also made on redoing the cap sleeve shaping of the Galway sweater. That will be a separate post on what wasn’t liked, what I did to fix It and hopefully a good picture of Sue with it fitting.

I will knit in the Mountain Colors shawl at the airport. Wonder how many stitches I have on the needles now?

Giveaway results will come in tomorrow’s post, so stay tuned… in the meantime, susan tells me we now have water bottles with the knit happy sheep on them. Would you like one? Comment on something you have had to fix or repair and how you did it, including the tools used if any… if we go over 25 commenters, I will make it two prizes so share a link to this blog with your friends.

The other major accomplishment while I have been away was to learn css for the website redesign. I hope the new site plans can progress now!

Wow! Look how much the beans have grown.

Tara picked 17

Is that because she will turn 17 next year?  Anyways, number 17 was . . . drumroll please, Nancy Wilson!

And here she is just sitting down after a hard day of teaching.
No, she isn’t an employee, but is a valuable part of our teaching team and she was teaching the Three Tams using a two-handed Fair Isle technique.  One tam took a skein of Silk Garden and a skein of Shepherd’s Wool

Everyone who took the class made the project their own:

A selection of colorways used for the Three Tams pattern

We’re ready for our next Noro Kureyon or Silk Garden project;  it doesn’t matter if its sock or worsted weight.  Post a  link to a picture of your project and tell us a little bit about it in your comments.  On December 25, yes Christmas Day, I’ll have Haley pick a number and the matching commenter will receive a Knit Happy insulated tumbler!

Thank you to Passing Down Crazy and Mckmama for pointing the way to doing a photo collage.  I have a lot to learn but it was fun getting started . . . .

BTS at Stitches Midwest

BTS = Behind The Scenes, an acronym we use at Emmaus Walks for the go-fers

And, here are some shots from BTS at Stitches Midwest and, yes, Tom was definitely the “go-fer” and we couldn’t have done it without him.  My thanks to the whole team that helped man the Knitting Today booth, Claudia from Yarn Sisters for Zealana, Karen and Patti from Knit Happy, Chuck and Deb from Stonehedge Fiber Mills.  My hope is they had a great time meeting all the knitters that came through and have had a chance to rest their feet and legs by now.

And where is Lea-Ann?

Behind the Boxes

From the back aisle you see the Noni Designs as well as the Heritage Spinning and Weaving and other Shepherd’s Wool samples:

the view coming around the corner was Shepherd’s Wool:

Walking around to the inside is another view of Shepherd’s Wool and on the back wall is the spinner rack full of Shepherd’s Wool Fingering.  Next to the fingering is a better view of Y2Knit’s Seven-Eighths and Winter Ball Scoop Cami (check Ravelry for their knitalong)

Back to a view from the aisle, on the left is Y2Knit’s Seven-Eighths and Winter Ball Scoop Cami followed by the Zealana Kia Ora Kiwi and Kauri and in the middle is the Knit Happy bags and tumblers with the Gathered Totes on top of the yarn

On the back right of the booth is the Zealana Eco 2020 on the top and Zealana Kia Ora rimu on the bottom with the Windy Hills Alpaca from a farm in Ohio to the right.  The models shown are on the left: Eyelet Cardi by Chic Knits knit in Kauri fingering; Laguna knit in Rimu DK,  on top is the Grommet bag and the Watermelon Tote, and on the far right with the long row of buttons is Noni’s new cardigan pattern.

On the right of the booth, we featured Willow by Zealana, a cashmere/merino blend yarn that feels luscious and we have Knit Happy mugs lined up next to the checkout
