Aren’t they the cutest things? What else is there to do on a rainy day at the lake? Go to Knitting Today and work on their new sweaters. I really never dreamed they would become avid sweater knitters at 15 and 17!

And, for a close-up on what they are doing?

Haley is a few rows in on Coraline. Note the color coding work she has done on the chart. Each symbol is a different color so she can easily glance down to see whether it is an SSK or a K2Tog (or whatever happens on the purl side). She’s also keeping track with her highlighter tape. The yarn she’s using is Cotton Classic.

Tara? Well, she couldn’t resist and she did start the Ty-Dy Dots Cleopatra she blogged about yesterday. I guess she thought about it all night and the first thing she did when she walked in was pick up the yarn and try to find the pattern for it. Well, during knit night last night (she was on a babysitting job), I knew we had sold two of the patterns, maybe even the last one. I mentioned it to her and she started tearing up!! Seriously! She said I only have thirty days to get it knit! Well, looking through the stack, I did find the last one [and I see online that the inventory isn't tracking the POS sales so need to fix whatever is happening or not happening properly there]. I cannot believe she is doing this. She’s going to be knitting non-stop until fair!

The fit on both of these tops are different for me. They are both a-line shape. Haley’s gathers at the bustline and Tara’s is gathered by the yoke shaping. Haley has the complicated factor of adding in bust darts for her shape. I’ve not sized out an a-line shape before so I’m pulling out the new trusty book on Sweater Design to make sure we’re measuring correctly. What has been your experience with fitting an a-line? Do you measure under the bust and knit to gauge? Do you measure the bust itself and how much “a” do you want at the line?

As for me? Forget time to knit. I’m working on the brochure for MK Unite! July 29-August 1 and finalizing the luncheon for Lorna’s Day June 16 (which is now sold out, but we’re taking a waiting list so call 800-426-5098).

P.S. I’m on my wait to TNNA — anything new you want me to look for?

P.P.S. Don’t forget about the giveaway, it ends June 19!

It is my last morning to sit on the porch outside in 70 degree weather with my first cup of coffee in the morning. I hear the weather back in Indiana isn’t so nice.

A little progress was made on Cassidy. I had to figure out where I was, tear down and fix some cable crosses and then make sure the sleeve shaping was going to fit my body. Mission accomplished. I even figured out how to cross a cable during bind off! Now I am wondering if I should fix the back cable bind off rows?

Progress was also made on redoing the cap sleeve shaping of the Galway sweater. That will be a separate post on what wasn’t liked, what I did to fix It and hopefully a good picture of Sue with it fitting.

I will knit in the Mountain Colors shawl at the airport. Wonder how many stitches I have on the needles now?

Giveaway results will come in tomorrow’s post, so stay tuned… in the meantime, susan tells me we now have water bottles with the knit happy sheep on them. Would you like one? Comment on something you have had to fix or repair and how you did it, including the tools used if any… if we go over 25 commenters, I will make it two prizes so share a link to this blog with your friends.

The other major accomplishment while I have been away was to learn css for the website redesign. I hope the new site plans can progress now!

Wow! Look how much the beans have grown.

I feel bad, sort of, that on Tom’s vacation he has to load a truck, drive, unload a truck, move boxes, unload inventory, fill shelves, and at the end of a long weekend refill boxes, move boxes, reload a truck and drive again, unload, etc. I think he’ll then leave the reshelving to the rest of the staff. This is on his VACATION! Now, he is telling me I plan these things to happen on his vacation, seriously, I don’t even have his vacations on my calendar to call the organizers of these events and tell them this is when they have to have Stitches Midwest, because Tom is on vacation, you know <LOL>. Â

Our first shipment to load is Zealana Yarns, over 300 pounds of yarn!! The second shipment that came in that is now at our house is ten boxes of display fixtures, each weighing 60 pounds — you do the math — he said not to stack it all in one place on our living room floor, wonder why.  Today we’re making the trek to Karen’s to load the Knit Happy boxes, I don’t even want to count how many we’re talking about, but I think it filled half of her garage when I saw them the other day and it took her weeks to price/tag everything.  On Tuesday we’re going to haul the trailer — oh, thank you to my neighbor Steve F who is a bread man who just upgraded to a box truck and has loaned us his 20 foot trailer so we can load in increments instead of saving it all until Tuesday night <wooh, what a sentence!>– over to UPS and wait in their parking lot for the unload to finish and snag my boxes. Now I know why I married a UPS man, a direct line to the center and my son who works unload there (he would help but he’s on vacation too). Nine boxes are arriving from Stonehedge in every color of their yarn as well as more patterns for felted hats, clogs, and, hmmmm, I know there is 15 boxes we have to pick up at last count. Then back to the store to finish loading the display pieces. Tara has made a list of what she needs to add,  complementary shirts, necklaces, and I don’t know what else, to fancy the mannequins up and make their sweaters stand out. I have samples from Noni patterns, Heritage Spinning and Weaving, Zealana, and our in house samples of Shepherd’s Wool and Zealana yarns.  I’ll have to take a picture of everything before it is boxed up so we know how to put it back together.Â

Well, on this Labor Day, since we’re working; I hope you get in some knitting time. Tom is taking a few minutes to cast his line into the water. A couple of blue gill yesterday and he’s on a morning stroll down to the lake this a.m. to see what is happening down there. I should have thought ahead and outfitted the cottage (across the street from our house on Pretty Lake) so we could stay in it last night, at least he would have felt like he was on vacation one day — oh well, next time! I have to get moving and get stuff done . . . have a great day everyone!! Comment and tell me what you did today, and we’ll pick a winner for a Knit Happy notebook in your color choice after we get back from Stitches.Â

If you want to see all the Knit Happy products we’re taking, click here. And, don’t forget to stop by Booth 329/331 at Stitches Midwest and tell us Hi!!
