Nifty new stuff…

Knitter's Block

Just popping in to tell you all about a few new things.  My favorite of which would be the Knitter’s Block  kit.  I have these big interlocking foam pieces that are actually meant for the floor in a playroom or whatever.  And I do like them, but this kit is so much better.  It includes 9, 12″ square tiles that have a slightly nappy fabric on one side that prevents your projects from sliding around (mine do not- I have to use a towel, which slows drying), 20 T-pins, and a 100% Egyptian cotton pressing cloth.  Of course, directions are included as well.  I pile my tiles in the corner (when the kids aren’t working on completely destroying them); these come in a lovely tote that has a snap-close strap at the top.  I’m totally diggin’ ‘em.

Check out the New March items and you’ll find some fun stitch markers, as well as a little sheep zipper charm.   Don’t overlook the new Knitter’s – Winter 2010.  The sweater on the cover is knit in Tatamy Tweed DK.  This issue is full of color and textures- specifically cables.  I know I say this about every issue, but it really is a good one.

Quick update on my “Morning Frost”.  I am about 6″ into the second half.  I had to put it down for a few days to start a pair of socks.  I’m hoping to work on it tonight at the kids’ youth group meeting as it is easy enough that I can still listen to what’s going on.  Or is that offensive?  To knit when someone is giving a lesson, I mean.  I have a gal that knits at Bible study, but as I am a knitter it doesn’t bother me.  Hmm…. I am going to go on the theory that if it bothers someone they can tell me.  Until then, I shall knit!

Woolly Trunkshow

Marie Mayhew's Woolly Sheep

While I was on what I choose to refer to as a “snow vacation” last week, we got in a trunk show from Marie Mayhew.  I have long adored her creations- they are so stinkin’ cute!  I have christened the Woolly Sheep you see to the left Doris.  In my head she speaks with a British accent and spends her days frolicking in flower fields dispensing widsom to all her little creature friends.   She is very motherly, calls everyone “dear” and frequently hosts tea parties complete with cucumber sandwiches.  Now that I think about it, she is the Mary Poppins of the sheep world- minus the magic carpet bag.

Woolly Birds

I wish that I could post pics of everything, but there is just too much, so I’m only sharing a few.  If you are near the area, I encourage you to pop in and take a look.  In addition to Doris, and the Woolly Birds you see to the right we have the Woolly Nests, Eggs, Candy Corn (done in styles for many holidays), additional Woolly Sheep, Bunnies and Chicks.  There is a class for the Woolly Bunnies and Chicks on Saturday so give us a ring if you are interested.  Pictured below you can see the Woolly Gnome, whom I have named Herb, (we also have a few other gnomes and mushrooms not pictured), and the Woolly Penguin chick.    To see all the Marie Mayhew patterns click on the link. http://www.knittingtoday.com/go.mvc?ID=mayhew

New Knit Happy!

Weekender Duffle

Karen is a busy, busy  lady, making sure that we have plenty of Knit Happy products to satisfy our need for those fun little extras.  She has added a new collection , called the Uptown Collection, to her line of Knit Happy products.

These products have a different flavor than the other totes and accessory bags.  They are made of a quilt-look black microfiber that gives them a bit more sophisticated look, hence the name.  While they still boast the Knit Happy logo, they go beyond the knitting totes that we have come to love.  The Weekender Duffle is roomy enough to fit everything you need for a weekend getaway, while the Sling Purse is small enough to be convenient, but is also packed full of pockets.  Click the link at top to see the entire collection.

In addition to the Uptown Collection, there is a new little tote, called the Take-Along Tote that is just right for smaller projects.  I’m thinking this would be a great little poolside bag.  Stuff a bottle of sunscreen in the front pocket, throw a book or Kindle, maybe an iPod, and a sock project in the tote and I’m good for the afternoon.  You can bet that the purse hanger is going to find it’s way home with me some day soon.  I do not like to set my purse on the floor at restaurants, sometimes chairs just aren’t designed to hold a purse, and if one is able to hang the strap over the back of the chair then the purse is hanging out there in everyone’s way.  Or maybe that part is just because I have a purse the size of small luggage.  Either way, I must have this!

Earth Happy Journals from Knit Happy

Brand spanking new and just in time for gift giving, the Knit Happy Earth Happy Journal is now in stock.  This is a very lovely, small journal that is just the right size for tucking in a bag.  The colors are rich and earthy which compliments the “Earth Happy” theme.  And I so like that the pens stay put!

So, what do you think?  Like it? Love it?  Want to use it for compost matter?  Let us know what you think!

Ready to Help… our own Elf!

Well, he really isn’t our own elf, but he sure is darn cute!!!!! New grandson, Jacob,  is wearing the Andean Hat that is coming with us to Stitches Midwest. Yepp, we are packing for it!  The store looks like an actual hurricane has came through.  Jjust wait until we take the shelves, Susan will be selling out of boxes while we’re gone!  She might even throw a “box” sale just so we don’t have to put it back on shelves.  Stay tuned . .

Cassidy is almost done!  It is completely assembled, just waiting to finish up a few ends, block and sew on the buttons.  Can’t wait to show you the final product.

Giveaway:  In the meantime, if you would like to win one of the hat kits Jacob is wearing, leave a comment.  We’ll draw a winner upon our return from Stitches Midwest.  And, if you don’t want to make the hat?  There is enough yarn in the kit to make Marie Mayhew’s felted eggs or use do a multi-color felted bag, like Noni’s Vintage Purse.  Oh, and notice that the hat is lined?  Tammy Otis came up with that idea all on her own and shared a write-up with us.  Make sure you ask for it if you order a kit.  Speaking of Tammy, her and DH celebrated their anniversary recently and guess where they spent some of the time?  Yep, here!  She brought us size of the Andean Hats in various colorways for our display at Stitches.  Thank you, Tammy!  And congrats, to both of you on your anniversary too!

Jim and Tammy — Happy Anniversary!

Another kit we’ll be featuring at Stitches Midwest is the Freedom Hat kit, available in three colorways.  It is a fun knit!

So close to being done

"Tee for Two" in Blueberry Fields

I have not had near enough time to knit recently.  I planned on getting more done last week, but when the sweet corn is ready, it’s ready.  I like to put up lots of sweet corn, so I took two days off of everything else and did nothing but corn.  The second round should be ready late this week so I have to knit like crazy the next few nights.  Doesn’t it drive you mad when you are so close to finishing a project only to be too busy to knit.  It’s almost enough to make me cuss.  Anyway, I have maybe three inches to go before beginning the second sleeve and then it’s a pretty quick round and round and ready for the trim.

I have tweaked just a bit and did a three needle bind-off on the first side and knit the sleeve in the round.  So much easier than seaming when finished.  I am not a big fan of seaming and I like the idea of being done when I’m done.  I am going to take out the last few rows of the sleeve and do it over on a smaller needle.  I think my gauge loosened when I went to purl and I don’t like how loose/big the sleeve ends.

Anybody notice the coffee mug in the background?  That’s the newest from Knit Happy, the Bright Sips Mug, in yellow.  Click the link to see all five bright colors.

I had to come back and edit this to add that the Diva Bundles are in stock!  These are so pretty.  I’d like to buy a bunch just to hang up and look at.
