Frosty’s debut (and a few tips)

Monday, November 24th, 2008

felted-snowman.JPGWell…. now that Kathy has let the cat out of the bag and you all know that the snowman is done and on the tree, I must get around to blogging him.  I have to admit that he’s very cute up on top of that tree.  Not sure if you can see it in the pic or not, but he is holding a little golden star.  Tell you what though, it was not easy.  This poor guy had to undergo an episiotomy, a stuffingectomy and a labotomy (I apologize for any spelling errors) in order to get him to sit straight.  Hey, anything for Christmas, right?!

I have come across a few time savers that you may be interested in.  First and foremost is check out the scrapbooking aisle for cute (and I mean absolutely adorable) brads to use instead of buttons.  Super easy and fast. I also found a little string of Christmas lights.  Also, I would recommend getting the correct size of beads and wire because when it comes to the arms, size does matter.  I rebeaded my snowmen and they look so much better- not to mention it was much quicker and easier.  I did go with the light bulb nose, a different color for each one and a little dab of hot glue held them fast.  Let’s see…  oh, I almost forgot.  I found the poly pellets in the doll making section at Hobby Lobby.  A one pound bag was only three bucks and should do several snowmen.

I am almost done with the shawl and then I will lightening through the first set of snowmen (carolers) and post a pic.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! - Susan

Snowman update

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

My snowmen are in hibernation until tomorrow when I go shopping for more beads and such.  I am knitting a pashmina for my woman and a scarf for my man.  I tell you, I’ve had so many ideas for these guys that I had to start writing them down so I don’t forget!  Right now I am finishing Lea-Ann’s snowman to top the tree at the shop.  He’s going to be soooo cute!   I’ve got to put on his face, give him a light bulb nose and bead a star for him to be holding and then I’ll stick him (with just enough stuffing to plump him up) on the top of the tree.  Oh, and a scarf.  He’s gotta have a scarf.  I’ll post a pic when I’m done and he’s perched on the treetop. - Susan

The Votes Are In!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

No, I’m not talking about the elections…. I mean for my Felted Door Mitten.  I polled everyone at UFO Night (those who hadn’t already voted online) and I received 2 votes for the green and 2 for the blue.  If I add these votes to the ones online the results are as follows:  Garnet = 1 vote; Hunter Green = 4 votes; Royal Blue = 5 votes.   So….  I will be making my mitten in blue (the first one anyway…)  and will embellish with swirls of white mohair (as in snow) with a sprinkling of beads for sparkle.  I envision a snowy winter twilight when I picture this mitten in my head.  I should be able to cast on shortly, and will post pictures when I’m done.  I can’t wait… I’m so stoked!

Encore Sock now in Stock!

Typing that makes me feel a bit like Dr. Seuss.

For heavier socks, this really rocks / It’s great for feet and sweaters so sweet! / You can knit it in a box / You can knit it with a fox

Okay, enough of that.  This is one of those fall in the middle type yarns.  It’s heavier than a sock yarn but a bit lighter than a typical dk.  I’m looking at colorway 7521 thinking it would make some really cool Prairie Heights socks, while Penny is running around picking out yarns to use as trim on the baby sweater (of course).

I’ll not be starting those socks anytime soon, however, as I’ve taken a tip from Lea-Ann and I am making myself finish (and in some cases start) projects that have been lounging around, or long ago promised to someone.  So far I’ve made three silly scarves, three hats, and two ponchos,  and finished a pair of socks.  Oh, and I’m knitting the felted snowmen from Marie Mayhew (so fun- I can’t wait to finish and add the doo-dads… I have so many ideas!).  Almost forgot, I’m also knitting a prayer shawl.  When I am finished with the above mentioned, THEN I can start on the two pairs of Alpine Boots, THEN I get to make the felted door mitten.  Fortunately for me, these are all quick projects.  Except for the sweater…. really should finish that, also.  Finding time to knit while re-modeling is not an easy thing!

On the bright side, I should have no trouble finding something to knit on for UFO night! -Susan

November feet!

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

susan’s feet   Check out the picture of my feet.   Big deal, you say?  It is a big deal because these are my feet on November 6th!  Notice that I am wearing flip flops as my feet are surrounded by the fallen leaves.  Don’t you just love it when a simple blessing like warm weather in November falls into your lap?

I am not fooled though… I know the cold is coming.  I’m knitting my hubby a warm, wooly hat because he has decided that he’s going to continue shaving his head through the winter.  We’ll see how long he makes it.  :)

Happy Fall- Susan

Did you get your vote on?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

I did!  Right after I dropped Sarah off at school I went to my precinct, expecting a longer than usual line.  I was a bit surprised to find that although there were people there, there was no line.  Only three of the eight booths were filled (four once I sat down).  It was steady while I was there but never a line.  Did anyone have to wait longer than usual?  Just me being curious.

I am looking forward to political advertisment free television/radio/newspapers.  Regardless of who wins I will definitely be glad when it’s all said and done and I can knit in peace.  - Susan

UPDATE:  I talked to my hubby Tues. night and apparently I lucked out and got there at just the right time because he said there was a line when he got there of about 10 people and by the time he was done it had grown to right around 30 people.
